IDM 7.2 Notifications Processing

Hello IDM peeps,

I am in the process of defining all required notifications for our solution and am finding it incredibly difficult to track down any supporting documentation on this.  Any assistance in identifying a relevant config/build document or examples of how best to do this in ver 7.2 would be greatly appreciated.....I cannot believe there is no doco out there!

Essentially my understanding of the process is as follows:

(1) A trigger notification task is initiated and configured wherever the notification is required to be triggered,

(2) The trigger task has a corresponding .tpl or html template file loaded in the database,

(3) A second generic notification task is used to forward the mail processing, based on events on the MX_TRIGGER_NOTIFICATION attribute,

(4) All supported by a Notifications repository with all required constant.

We have notifications triggered and emails sent no problem, this post relates only to the variable content to be published in these mails.

OK, so here is the hard part.....I cannot seem to find anything that allows me to use the PAR_ variables indicated in the help doco.  In fact, I can find no reference to these variables other than a task entitled 9/Assignment Notification which utilises a script sap_assignmentNotification.  The help doco (very limited) states that you can simply use any of the list of PAR_ values and they will be 'miraculously' populated in the notification.  Either I am missing some key piece of the puzzle, or this is not valid in ver 7.2, as my attempts to use PAR_ variables just publishes the text of the variable and no value.

The other option that I can see some people using is the context variable approach suggested by Chris S in Gerhard's post here

http://scn.sap.com/thread/3198401.

Which is the preferred approach? ...and what is the standard here in terms of the task and any required script.  Any screenshots of job template examples would certainly be appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Kind Regards,

Andrew Whitebrook
